Paediatric First Aid (Level 3) training in Newcastle

Course overview

Our Level 3 Paediatric First Aid course in Newcastle is the full Ofsted-approved, EYFS-compliant qualification for anyone responsible for babies and children in an early years or childcare setting. Awarded by Qualsafe Awards, it leads to the Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF) and meets the statutory paediatric first aid requirement set out in the Department for Education's Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework in full.

The course runs over 2 days and combines clear theory with plenty of hands-on practice. Working with infant and child manikins, you will rehearse CPR, choking response and casualty care in realistic scenarios, building the skills and confidence to act calmly in a real emergency. Sessions are delivered in small groups by experienced trainers, so there is time to practise until you feel genuinely prepared.

Training takes place at Pottery Bank Community Centre in Newcastle upon Tyne, or we can deliver the course on-site at your nursery, pre-school or childcare setting. To book a place or ask about group training, call us on 0191 820 6199.

Who is this course for?

This course is designed for anyone responsible for the care of babies and children. It is ideal for nursery and pre-school staff, registered childminders and their assistants, early years staff in schools, and nannies seeking the full qualification. It also suits parents, grandparents and carers who want reliable paediatric first aid skills.

Under the EYFS framework, at least one person with a current full paediatric first aid certificate must be on the premises and available at all times when early years children are present, and on outings. Staff who gained a Level 2 or Level 3 childcare qualification on or after 30 June 2016 must also hold a current certificate to be counted in staff-to-child ratios. This course meets that requirement in full and satisfies Ofsted on inspection.

Assessment & certification

There is no daunting written exam. You are assessed by your trainer through practical demonstration and continuous observation across the course, with built-in knowledge checks along the way. On successful completion you will receive the Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF) certificate, valid for 3 years and accepted by Ofsted as meeting EYFS requirements. The qualification is awarded by Qualsafe Awards, an Ofqual-recognised awarding organisation, so it meets recognised national standards.

How is the course assessed?

What should I bring and wear?

Wear comfortable, loose clothing, as the course involves floor-level practical work with infant and child manikins. Participants must be at least 14 years old and able to take part in the practical activities. Just bring yourself, ready to get hands-on.
